Putting safety for women first and foremost this Christmas
This Christmas we are proud to support Advance Charity and their work to help women to lead lives - free from abuse and offending. Our sleepwear will form part of the organisation’s – starter packs for the women who use their services, as well as a clothing bank for 2019.
‘The holiday season can be a challenging time for everyone but especially so for those living in precarious or vulnerable conditions. We all deserve to feel special and valued whatever our circumstances. Tales of Thread is thrilled to help bring some joy to Advance and the women they work with by providing sleepwear for them to enjoy and cherish,’ Rebecca Fordham, Tales of Thread Founder.
Advance works with women across London. Their services are available to anyone who is aged 13 + and identify as women regardless of their ethnicity, sexuality, immigration status, physical and mental health. They work to divert women from the Criminal Justice System at the earliest opportunity, reduce re-offending amongst women-- and prevent families breaking down as a result -.
“We are thrilled to receive support in kind from Tales of Thread. Many of the women who use our services do not have access to basics -such as shelter and clothing and are often alone over the holiday period. The beautiful sleepwear made by women for women is a wonderful Christmas gift.” Niki Scordi, Chief Executive, Advance Charity.
No one should experience domestic abuse, yet it is widespread, with 1 in 4 women from age 16+ having experienced domestic abuse in England & Wales, costing society 15 billion pounds.
“Tales of Thread was established to help women support themselves through sustainable employment. By supporting Advance we also hope to bring emotional and physical wellbeing to the women who use their services,” Rebecca Fordham, Founder.
Tales of Thread sleepwear is designed to be stylish, comfortable and practical. Manufactured from organic, fair trade cotton and made in female owned and managed workshops and factories. Our transparent supply chain ensures everyone involved benefits from the production so that everyone can sleep soundly.
At Tales of Thread we recognise that the challenges and risks faced by many women and their families on a day to day basis are complex. Much work is needed to be done across sectors and communities to eliminate domestic abuse and insecurity. Clothing is not a solution but feeling good, loved and secure is a small step to help rebuild confidence and self-esteem.
