We are really proud to be part of Okapi X Merchants London pop-up. Showcasing the best of African designs, running from June until the end of August. Hosted at Okapi’s London store just off Sloane Square (40, Eaton Terrace, SW1 W8TS).
Alongside Tales of Thread, other exciting brands include Lalesso, Fouche London, Loza Maléombho, Laurence Airline, Pembe Club, Sawa Shoes and Halsted.
The gorgeous Taali M, a French singer of Congolose, Chadian and Egyptian descent kicked the launch party off with her combination of late 80’s pop rock, ska and ragga and traditional chants and rhythms from Africa.
Following the huge success of the 2012 Merchants in London Pop-Up shop at the Bluebird Store on Kings Road, OKAPI decided to bring Merchants back again. Merchants on Long is an iconic - first of its kind - concept store in South Africa.
The brainchild of South African businesswoman Hanneli Rupert, she founded Okapi in 2008. Okapi is one of Africa's first luxury brands, creating luxurious handbags working directly with indigenous farmers and tanneries, ensuring every element of an Okapi bag is 100% traceable, sustainable and ethically-sourced.
The London pop up will donate 10% of the sales from selected designers to the African Fashion Fund – a not-for-profit organization that supports and develops emerging African fashion designers.
