Within living memory, Cambodia and its people have experienced extreme pain and trauma. The genocide (1975-79) is part of the fabric of Cambodian life.

Choeung Ek, fifteen kilometres from Phnom Penh city centre, marks the death of over 450 people. Remembered by Cambodian and visitors from around the world, silently walking around the gardens, laying friendship bracelets and flowers at the mass burial sites.
